Luis’ expertise

Luis regularly appears in both the High Court and District Court of New Zealand. He has experience across a wide range of civil and commercial disputes, with particular expertise in bankruptcy and liquidation proceedings, claims involving personal guarantees, breach of contract and property-related litigation. Luis has also acted in High Court appeals and Judicial Settlement Conferences, and is frequently involved in helping businesses and individuals successfully resolve disputes through negotiation and settlement, often avoiding the need for a formal court hearing.
Luis has recently acted in several notable cases, including:
Kang v Heli A1 Limited [2025] NZHC 679 (27 March 2025)
Wetex Kang v Heli A1 Limited [2024] NZDC 18892 (10 August 2024)
Mayhew v Sealegs International Limited [2024] NZHC 3536 (25 November 2024)
These decisions and others reflect Luis’s growing reputation for handling urgent and technically complex matters in commercial litigation.
Luis enjoys the technical aspects of his role, undertaking research, drafting and reviewing court documents and working closely with clients. He moved to Turner Hopkins to enjoy being part of a highly skilled and knowledgeable team.
Luis has previously been involved with volunteering for Big Brother / Big Sister and currently volunteers to coach volleyball, which ties in with his love of sport.
