Kate’s expertise

Kate initially worked in enforcement, starting at the Metropolitan Police in London where she worked as a front line officer and detective within the Lewisham Borough and she completed her studies as an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) with the University of Auckland.

After qualifying, Kate took a role with one of Auckland's well-known law firms:  Based at their Albany office, she moved up to the level of associate within three years and enjoyed broad exposure to all aspects of property, wills, trusts, commercial/business law, and estate management. She chose to specialise in commercial property transactions, leasing and subdivision work.

In 2018, Kate was appointed as a senior solicitor for a large corporate law firm twice named "New Zealand Law Firm of the Year", where she represented not just smaller businesses and private individuals but also a major NZ bank concerning its leasing matters as a tenant. She further advised other large clients on leasing, property matters and related financial transactions. Additionally, Kate worked as in-house legal counsel for a large-scale property syndicator, which primarily focused on property investment for retail investors.

Fulfilling a long-time goal, Kate set up her own legal firm, KC Legal, in 2020. This allowed her to focus solely on her clients, responding and adapting swiftly. However, working alone does have its limitations in terms of time and resources. So, when Turner Hopkins approached Kate, she welcomed the opportunity to join a progressive law firm with an experienced team that collaborates to benefit its clients.

Outside work, Kate and her family immerse themselves in life on the North Shore. A keen sporting family, you'll find them participating in various running events or out on the water, catching dinner (if they're lucky!)

"If you're looking for a property law specialist who is highly motivated and absolutely in your corner, please get in touch."

Kate is also a current member of the New Zealand Law Society's - Property Law Section.
