In 2021 the former (and largely absent) Minister of Immigration released a Special Resident Visa category - a category like no other before it and probably like no other we will see in the future. The 2021 Resident Visa, which could see nearly 200,000 applicants securing the right to live, work and study in New Zealand was a landmark decision, not just in terms of volume but also in terms of the actual criteria - a streamlined, fast-tracked, hassle-free pathway to Residence for a large pool of applicants, over three times previous annual migration quotas and with only a fraction of the rules attached.
