Turner Hopkins Appoints Phil Shannon as Partner

Turner Hopkins is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Shannon as its new Commercial and Property Partner. Phil joined the team at Turner Hopkins in mid-July.

Phil is a highly experienced general commercial and property lawyer with a background of providing top level legal advice to corporate, government and private clients. He has advised clients on a wide rage of high profile commercial projects, national infrastructure and land developments, property due diligence and governance. Phil characterises his legal advice and support as practical, pragmatic and commercially sound.

Phil holds both Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Master of Law (LLM) degrees. He has been a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand since 1983.

Phil hails from Wellington where he was most recently a Partner at one of the capital’s CBD law firms. From that Wellington base his nation-wide practice focused on construction, government infrastructure projects and Public Works compensation claims. Phil also advised Maori Incorporations on land related legal issues and a range of corporate and private clients on commercial, property and asset protection matters.

Phil was also a Partner at a leading Hamilton law firm, where he led the firm’s local government property and commercial team, providing advice on governance, decision-making, compliance and corporate/commercial matters to a number of councils. Phil also worked on contractual arrangements for sporting and other events using city owned stadia, and on Maori Land matters such as joint venture commercial property projects involving councils and iwi.

I look forward to being part of the wider team that takes the firm forward with continued success.” Phil enjoys the leadership and managerial aspects of being a partner in a law firm.
