First Home Partner gone, but Home Start Still Available

As at 29 September 2023, First Home Partner which was a shared ownership scheme run by Kainga Ora has been cancelled.

First Home Partner was a shared ownership scheme designed to help aspiring first home buyers that didn't quite have enough of a deposit to buy a home that met their needs. According to Kainga Ora's website, "the scheme is now fully subscribed and therefore we (they) will not be accepting any new applications while we (they) work through the commitments to those already in the scheme. We (they) will shortly be contacting current applicants to confirm the status of their application."

It seems as though there may be a nerve wracking wait for some who have already got an application pending.

While this is not great news for first home buyers, the First Home Grant provides up to a $10,000.00 grant towards a first home and the First Home Loan packages are still available and of course KiwiSaver's First Home Withdrawal remains an option for first home buyers.
