Are there any franchise specific laws in New Zealand?

No unlike Australia and the United States which heavily regulate franchising, there is no franchise specific legislation in New Zealand. General legislation such as the Fair Trading Act 1986 which regulates fair dealings in trade, the Contractual Remedies Act 1993 which apply to franchising but there is no specific legislation which deals with franchising. Members of the Franchise Association of New Zealand Inc. are required to comply with the Code of Practice and the Code of Ethics of the Association but membership is voluntary.
