Domestic Violence
The Domestic Violence Act defines “domestic violence” as including physical, sexual or psychological abuse or violence. The current legislation has a “zero-tolerance” policy towards such acts. This, in turn, has led to a dramatic increase in the number of people obtaining protection orders against their spouses or partners.
If you wish to obtain a protection order to protect you and your children then urgent attention is usually crucial. We have all the systems in place to provide a rapid response to both the violence itself and to secure you, where appropriate, other remedies such as occupation and furniture orders. If you have been served with a protection order it is equally important for you to seek advice as quickly as possible so that your freedom of movement is not compromised indefinitely.
Whether you are the victim of domestic violence or the party accused of committing that violence, it is essential that you receive competent legal advise as to the options available to you and the manner in which to obtain the necessary legal redress. The family law team at Turner Hopkins has extensive experience in this area of practice.
